Dongdaemun-gu Opens '2023 Lunar New Year Agricultural and Marine Products Direct Market' on the 10th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) will hold the '2023 Lunar New Year Agricultural and Marine Products Direct Market' on the 10th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the plaza in front of the district office, in celebration of Korea's biggest holiday, Seollal, together with its sister cities and counties.
This event, resuming after three years due to COVID-19, involves 13 sister cities and counties (Namhae-gun, Naju-si, Jecheon-si, Chuncheon-si, Eumseong-gun, Yeoju-si, Sunchang-gun, Cheongsong-gun, Cheongyang-gun, Sangju-si, Yeoncheon-gun, Boseong-gun, Buan-gun) and the Women's Federation. It aims to reduce the burden of rising prices on residents' shopping baskets and provide a great opportunity to access high-quality local agricultural and marine products.
Farmers from the sister cities will sell 125 items including fresh fruits such as pears and apples, dried seafood like anchovies, local specialties, and ceremonial goods.
By reducing distribution stages, the market offers local specialties that are cheaper than market prices but of excellent quality, providing healthy food options and easing the holiday shopping burden for housewives, making it a thrifty market to look forward to.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “We prepared this event to create an opportunity for mutual growth through communication between farmers in sister cities and local consumers. As the direct market, which was suspended for three years due to COVID-19, is reopening, we hope many residents will show interest and participate in the Dongdaemun-gu Lunar New Year direct market where producers from sister cities sell their products directly.”
Gangseo-gu, January 10th 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., January 11th 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., District Office Parking Lot
Over 30 Agricultural and Specialty Products Produced by 11 Sister Cities Sold at Affordable Prices
Seoul’s Gangseo-gu (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) will operate the ‘2023 Lunar New Year Sister Cities Direct Market’ at the district office parking lot from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 10th and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 11th.
The direct market is very popular and well-received every year by residents preparing for the holiday table, as it allows easy purchase of agricultural and specialty products directly produced by sister cities.
Since 2000, Gangseo-gu and its sister cities have steadily cooperated, serving as an excellent example of urban-rural mutual growth and friendship.
This year, 11 local governments including Gangwon-do, Gangneung-si, Imsil-gun, Sangju-si, Taean-gun, Haman-gun, Suncheon-si, Cheongyang-gun, Goesan-gun, Nonsan-si, and Wanju-gun will participate, showcasing over 30 excellent agricultural, marine, livestock, and specialty products such as rice, sweet potatoes, cheese, Korean beef sirloin, dried persimmons, and dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken).
By eliminating middle distribution processes and selling at prices lower than the market, it is expected to significantly reduce the shopping burden for residents ahead of the holiday.
The district will ensure a safe event by regularly disinfecting frequently touched areas throughout the market period.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “This is a good event where producers can expand sales channels and consumers can purchase excellent food at affordable prices in this era of high prices. As many people will gather ahead of the nation’s biggest holiday, Seollal, we will do our best to ensure a safe event.”

To enhance customer satisfaction, the district will provide free same-day delivery for orders within the region. Additionally, self-packaging booths equipped with packing boxes will be operated to offer convenience comparable to large supermarkets.
