Improving Work Efficiency and Enhancing Working Conditions for Environmental Sanitation Workers
Gangnam-gu to Pilot Operate Two Eco-Friendly Road Surface Sweepers on Narrow Streets Difficult for Garbage Trucks to Access, Plans to Operate 14 Units by 2024
Effectively Removes Illegal Dumping, Cigarette Butts Stuck in Storm Drains, Illegal Promotional Flyers, and Fine Dust in Dense Areas such as Shopping Districts and Restaurants, Including Narrow Streets Hard for Large Cleaning Vehicles to Enter
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is introducing two eco-friendly road surface sweepers as part of its initiative to modernize cleaning equipment and will pilot operate them until April.
The eco-friendly road surface sweeper (photo above) is a portable cleaning machine powered by electricity, designed to be easily pulled by sanitation workers. It is highly effective in cleaning narrow streets where large cleaning vehicles cannot enter, as well as removing illegally dumped waste, cigarette butts stuck in storm drains, illegal promotional flyers, and fine dust in densely populated areas such as shopping districts and restaurants.
Additionally, since it is powered by an electric motor, it produces less noise and emits no carbon, making it environmentally friendly. It also improves work efficiency and the working environment for sanitation workers compared to traditional cleaning tools like brooms and handcarts.
The district plans to pilot operate the sweepers across different areas through nine cleaning contractors until April 15, and after assessing sanitation worker satisfaction and cleaning effectiveness, aims to acquire a total of 14 units by 2024.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The proactive introduction of modern equipment has improved the working environment for sanitation workers and enabled cleaner streets. In particular, by effectively cleaning illegal flyers and other waste, we will create a cleaner and more pleasant Gangnam street environment.”
Gangnam-gu launched a pilot program in January this year for the domestically produced vacuum cleaner Madangsoe.
