[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The best-selling car in South Korea last year was the Porter. As in the year before last, the top 10 best-selling vehicles were all from the Hyundai Motor Group. Hyundai Motor Company featured the Porter, Grandeur, Avante, Palisade, Sonata, and Casper on the list, while Kia included the Sorento, Bongo, Carnival, and Sportage in the top 10.
According to the completed car industry on the 3rd, Hyundai's Porter II sold 92,411 units last year, ranking first in domestic sales. This is a 0.2% (193 units) increase compared to the previous year (92,218 units). The second place was the Sorento, with 68,902 units sold. In 2021, the Sorento sold 69,934 units, ranking fifth in sales. Although sales decreased compared to the previous year, it is interpreted that the Sorento benefited from a 'reflective gain' as sales of other vehicles declined.
The third place was the Grandeur, with 67,030 units sold. Compared to 2021, when it sold 89,084 units and ranked second, this represents a decrease of about 24.7%. This decline rate was the steepest among the top 10 best-selling vehicles last year.
Kia's Bongo III sold 64,826 units, ranking fourth. This is 5,097 more units than the previous year (59,729 units), raising its rank by three places.
The fifth place was the Carnival, with 59,058 units sold. Sales decreased by 19.6% compared to the previous year.
From sixth to tenth place were ▲Avante (58,743 units) ▲Sportage (55,394 units) ▲Palisade (49,737 units) ▲Sonata (48,308 units) ▲Casper (48,002 units). Casper entered the top 10 sales for the first time since its launch. On the other hand, the Genesis G80, which ranked ninth in sales in 2021 since its launch, did not make it into this year's top 10.
