Seoul Facilities Corporation Supports Convenience for Visitors at Municipal Cemeteries During Lunar New Year Holiday

Normal Operation of 15 Municipal Funeral Facilities and Provision of Various Conveniences

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 4th that it will operate 15 municipal funeral facilities normally during the Lunar New Year holiday period, including the Seoul Municipal Crematorium, Yongmiri, and Byeokje Municipal Cemeteries, and provide various conveniences for visitors paying respects.

During the Lunar New Year holiday period, about 300 corporation employees will work special shifts at 15 municipal funeral facilities operated by the corporation, including Yongmiri and Byeokje Cemeteries, and about 180 traffic police officers will also support the operations. On the upcoming weekend (January 7-8) and the weekend one week before the Lunar New Year holiday (January 14-15), traffic guidance personnel will be deployed at habitual congestion areas such as the Jangjaejang entrance intersection and near the crematorium parking lot to assist visitors who come early.

Additionally, the corporation will operate a free shuttle bus at Yongmiri Municipal Cemetery, where about 50,000 visitors are expected during the Lunar New Year holiday, to assist visitors. The shuttle bus will run from the 21st to the 25th for five days, operating approximately every 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Yongmiri Cemetery 1 and 2.

Furthermore, the corporation plans to install three additional temporary restrooms at Yongmiri Cemetery 1 and one at Yongmiri Cemetery 2, along with placing numerous traffic guidance signs.

Seoul Facilities Corporation Director Young Han Kim said, “We expect more than 50,000 visitors and over 15,000 vehicles at the 15 funeral facilities operated by the corporation during this Lunar New Year holiday.” He added, “The corporation will do its best to provide convenience so that visitors paying respects at the memorial facilities during this holiday do not experience any inconvenience.”
