[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City appears to be planning a full-scale investigation into whether subsidies provided to private organizations were used appropriately.
According to the city on the 3rd, Mayor Lee Jang-woo of Daejeon ordered at an expanded executive meeting that a full investigation be conducted to determine whether private organizations that received budget support from the government and the city over the past 2 to 3 years used the project funds properly.
This is intended for the city to conduct its own full investigation before the Board of Audit and Inspection undertakes a nationwide audit of subsidies to private organizations.
It has been confirmed that Mayor Lee also ordered that if any inappropriate cases are found during the investigation, the subsidies should be fully recovered and the relevant organizations should be criminally prosecuted.
Mayor Lee emphasized, “Taxpayer money should not be used for the benefit of a small number of specific organizations,” adding, “Depending on the severity of inappropriate project fund execution, organizations found to have committed serious wrongdoing should be excluded from next year’s budget allocation, and firm measures must be established.”
