CJ ENM '2023 Visionary' Awards
Kim Hye-su, Ma Dong-seok, Jung Seo-kyung and 10 Others
CJ ENM announced on the 3rd that actors Lee Jung-jae, Kim Hye-soo, Ma Dong-seok, IU, and director Park Chan-wook have been selected as the '2023 Visionaries,' honoring pioneering figures who lead change and innovation by driving trends in the entertainment industry. Jung Seo-kyung, Na Young-seok, Park Eun-bin, (G)I-DLE, and Lee Jin-joo were also included among the top 10.
Since 2020, CJ ENM has been selecting and awarding individuals who have presented a new vision for the cultural industry based on their own originality across the entertainment sector as 'Visionaries.' This event highlights those who have inspired the industry through relentless challenges and aims to forecast the future of the entertainment industry, with plans to hold an awards ceremony early in the year.
The '2023 Visionaries' were evaluated through a balanced assessment of quantitative data, expert reviews, and global indicators. The selection criteria include five key factors: △Only One achievement, representing a unique position with remarkable accomplishments in the K-entertainment industry; △Boundary-crossing influence, indicating impact extending beyond entertainment into various industries; △Frame shift, breaking stereotypes by presenting new values; △Original creativity, signifying the creation of new genres or characters; and △Global influence, transcending regional boundaries.
Lee Jung-jae challenged himself as a director with the film Hunt, which was invited to the non-competitive section of last year’s Cannes Film Festival, rising as a global star with both international recognition and influence. IU starred as Lee Ji-eun in Broker, which won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung led the success of the tvN drama Little Women by presenting a meticulous character construction and a unique worldview reflecting the spirit of the times, while director Park Chan-wook won the Best Director award at Cannes for Decision to Leave.
Ma Dong-seok was recognized not only as an actor but also as a producer for the 10-million viewer film Crime City 2 last year, and Park Eun-bin received praise for her portrayal of a character confronting prejudice in the drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
A CJ ENM official stated, “As the status and influence of K-entertainment continue to rise globally, the trajectory of the ‘Visionaries’ offers a glimpse into the infinite possibilities and vision of the next cultural industry. We will continue to pioneer new paths through challenge and innovation, consistently producing globally beloved IP (intellectual property).”
