[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the first day of mandatory COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for arrivals from China on the 2nd, confirmed cases are being identified one after another through testing at Incheon Airport.
According to health authorities, as of 5 p.m. that day, 208 people had been tested, with 13 (6.25%) confirmed positive so far. Ninety-three tested negative, and 102 are awaiting test results.
By this time, 718 people had arrived from China. Among them, 269 are Korean nationals and 449 are foreigners. Korean nationals or long-term foreign residents must undergo PCR testing within one day at their local government offices, while short-term foreign visitors must be tested at the airport testing center and wait for the results.
Short-term foreign visitors who test positive at the airport will be moved to temporary isolation facilities for seven days. The health authorities have prepared facilities that can accommodate up to 100 people and plan to secure additional isolation facilities.
Furthermore, starting from the 5th, all Korean and foreign nationals boarding flights from China to Korea must submit a negative PCR test result within 48 hours before boarding or a negative professional rapid antigen test (RAT) result within 24 hours before boarding.
