Proclamation of 'ESG Management' at the Opening Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Min Youngdon, President of Chosun University, declared ‘ESG Management’ this year and announced sustainable growth.
Chosun University announced on the 2nd that it held the 2023 opening ceremony and ESG management declaration ceremony simultaneously with faculty and staff in attendance.
About 300 university faculty and staff, including President Min Youngdon and Vice President Park Hyunju, attended the event, which proceeded in the order of opening remarks, national anthem, New Year’s address, awards, ESG management declaration, mutual greetings, singing of the school song, and closing remarks.
At the President’s Special Merit Award ceremony, which honors faculty and staff who made significant contributions to the development of Chosun University in 2022, Professor Son Kyungjong of the Graduate School’s Department of Science and Technology Policy Convergence and Kim Heewook from the Job Support Team received awards.
President Min said, “In the Year of the Black Rabbit, let us create a year where we gather wisdom and passion together to achieve brilliant results for future innovation and lead coexistence and development at the center of the local community.”
He also mentioned remarkable achievements from last year, such as reaching THE 25th rank and the production and launch of a CubeSat.
He continued, “It is also important to eliminate educational inequality in the local community and realize the social value of mutual growth,” adding, “We will strengthen democratic and rational decision-making systems to build transparent and fair governance.”
Furthermore, he declared Chosun University’s ESG management, stating, “Chosun University, with its historical mission as the only private university in Korea, aims to find solutions to the sustainable development challenges faced worldwide and to lead the development and sustainable growth of the local community.”
For ESG management, under the slogan inspired by the university’s English abbreviation (CSU), ‘Clean campuS with U,’ the university promised to ▲ build an eco-friendly campus, invest in research and education for carbon neutrality and environmental conservation ▲ take the lead in eliminating educational inequality and realizing the social value of mutual growth by providing various educational opportunities to vulnerable groups ▲ pursue inclusive, participatory, and representative decision-making through establishing a more transparent and fair governance system.
To actively promote ESG management, Chosun University launched an ESG committee directly under the Vice President in November last year and is conducting ESG management seminars and ESG environmental campaigns. Through the ESG TF team, it is developing a roadmap for Chosun University’s ESG management promotion.
