Natural Heritage Center Showcases Immersive Content on Natural Heritage

Experience Jeju Yongcheon Cave with Restricted Access Indirectly

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage will showcase immersive natural heritage content at the Natural Monument Center exhibition hall starting from the 3rd. This program highlights natural monuments and scenic sites in a new light. In the 'One, Two, Three! Natural Monument Animal Experience Zone,' three natural monument species mimic the participant's movements or encourage specific actions. These include the Asiatic black bear, the yellow-billed stork, and the Korean goral. Hidden in the background are species such as the jewel beetle, Blakiston's fish owl, otter, fairy pitta, mandarin duck (male and female), oriental white stork, and the Chinese pond turtle. The 'Geological Exhibition Zone' presents three dinosaur species through augmented reality (AR). The interior of the Jeju Yongcheon Cave, which is usually restricted from public viewing, is vividly conveyed using ten projectors and speakers. The Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "The experience room was designed to resemble the cave based on three-dimensional (3D) scan data." In the 'Natural Protection Area and Scenic Site Exhibition Zone,' panoramic videos filmed at Hallasan and Seongsan Ilchulbong are displayed, while the 'Feast of Data, Natural Protection Areas and Scenic Sites Media Wall' provides photographic and informational materials on eleven natural protection areas and 129 scenic sites. The 'Mammoth Exhibition Zone' screens the video 'Korean Peninsula, Mammoths Are Alive.' The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "This video recreates the country's finest mammoth skeleton specimen in AR," adding, "Through organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology, viewers can observe the sequential formation of the skeleton specimen, internal organs, muscles, skin, and fur."
