[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The name of Daejeon’s 2nd Municipal Library has been finalized as ‘Dongdaejeon Municipal Library.’

Daejeon City announced on the 2nd that after conducting a public contest and review, the name of the 2nd Municipal Library was finally decided as ‘Dongdaejeon Municipal Library.’

Located on Uam-ro in Dong-gu (Gayang-dong), the Dongdaejeon Municipal Library, currently under construction, will be the second municipal library following the opening of Hanbat Library (the first municipal library). It will be a hybrid creative library focused on children and youth, as well as an open complex cultural space for reading, culture, and communication.

The Dongdaejeon Municipal Library will have a total floor area of 7,353㎡, with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, and is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

The city emphasized that the name of the 2nd Municipal Library signifies a lifelong learning center for citizens located in the eastern part of Daejeon, and that the establishment of this library marks the starting point of the city’s commitment to expanding regional public library hubs.

No Gi-su, Director of the City’s Culture and Tourism Bureau, said, “The name Dongdaejeon Municipal Library is meaningful because it was chosen through a public contest by citizens,” and added, “The city will strive to ensure that this library becomes a landmark in the eastern area and a place for sharing knowledge and culture, attracting continuous visits from citizens.”
