Gwangyang Steelworks Holds Safety Commitment Event to Welcome the Year of the Rabbit

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) held a New Year's safety pledge event on the morning of the 1st at Baealdo Waterfront Park in Taein-dong, Gwangyang City, to vow for a zero-accident and zero-injury year in the Year of the Rabbit.


The safety pledge event was attended by Lee Jin-su, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, along with the research institute director, deputy director, leaders, safety team leaders, and other employees and related personnel of Gwangyang Steelworks.


The New Year's safety pledge event was held to mark the 2023 New Year, with Gwangyang Steelworks emphasizing that employee safety is the source of the company's competitiveness and actively leading the realization of a safe steelworks.


Director Lee Jin-su and the attendees read aloud a resolution containing the standards for safety activities, including safety first, compliance with rules and processes, proper TBM (Toolbox Meeting), establishment of safety systems, and a proactive attitude.


In particular, during this event, Gwangyang Steelworks raised a flag inscribed with five New Year's wishes: △Health and happiness △Safety-first culture with full participation △Achievement of zero accidents through field-led safety systems △World-class eco-friendly mobility steelworks △Securing quality and cost competitiveness, reaffirming their mutual commitment to the New Year.


On this day, Director Lee Jin-su presented three messages for establishing a safety culture.


First, he said, “Safety is undoubtedly the most important value respecting human dignity,” and emphasized, “Leaders, starting from those in charge, must demonstrate exemplary leadership by improving their own safety capabilities.”


Secondly, he stressed the importance of “ensuring that standards, TBM, and workers' behaviors are integrated,” highlighting safety activities focused on execution through continuous check and feedback.


Finally, he encouraged, “We must manage so that activities to improve each person's work become our daily working method,” and added, “Let us strive to create a happy steelworks for all by eliminating unsafe behaviors and conditions.”


Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is conducting various activities to create a safe working environment, including ▲development of an automatic measuring system for safe distance of cargo cranes ▲development of safety balls ▲development of steel band forming devices for customer safety ▲holding safety poster contests ▲and first aid training.
