[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) ‘Open Chang-dong (OPCD)’ has fully opened the creative and recording specialized studio ‘Eum Studio,’ established to support young artists, starting from the 2nd, and has begun official rentals.
‘Eum Studio’ operates with affordable rental fees for young people producing music and offers opportunities to directly experience the music production process alongside professionals.
The studio consists of three individual creative rooms and one control room equipped for recording and professional work. It is designed with optimal conditions to help young artists realize their creative ideas.
An official from the district explained, “We expect a virtuous cycle effect where high-quality cultural content produced at Eum Studio spreads throughout the Korean content market, fostering content production by artists, building networks among young artists, and creating employment.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “It is very unfortunate that songs by young music creators with outstanding composition skills remain unreleased due to the high cost of studio rentals. I hope that by allowing young people to use Eum Studio at affordable prices, it will become a stepping stone for the growth of young music creators.”
Dobong-gu’s Eum Studio offers a 50% discount on rental fees to support local musicians. Details on rental methods and fees can be found by searching ‘Eum Studio’ on OPCD’s Instagram and the Seoul Public Reservation Service.

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that the ‘Gangdong-gu Lee & Upcycle Plaza (perspective drawing · photo)’ will be completed in March this year in Godeok-dong, serving as a hub for resource circulation culture.
The ‘Lee & Upcycle Plaza’ is a space that not only recycles but also adds design to discarded resources to create new product value. It is a facility aimed at spreading recycling culture and expanding the upcycle industry base. Previously, the district was selected as a pilot district in July 2019 for the ‘Seoul-type Lee & Upcycle Plaza Construction Project,’ with a total project cost of 7.6 billion KRW invested from 2021 until completion in 2023.
The Gangdong-gu Lee & Upcycle Plaza will be built on a site near the outdated recycling center, in a building completed in 2005, with a site area of 2,150㎡, total floor area of 2,251.66㎡, and three floors above ground. The operator for the entrusted management of the recycling center on the first and second floors of the Gangdong-gu Lee & Upcycle Plaza will be selected through a public recruitment scheduled for January.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We will do our best to ensure the smooth establishment of the Gangdong Lee & Upcycle Plaza as a resource circulation cultural base.”
Songpa-gu Installs Night Streaming Lighting to Revitalize Seokchon Market Shopping District
Seokchon Market (52, Songpadaero 37-gil), Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok), has transformed into a lively market shining brightly even at night.
The district announced that it installed night streaming lighting in Seokchon Market to revitalize the traditional market and shopping district, which had been stagnant.
Seokchon Market had been facing difficulties as the scale of the existing shopping district shrank due to COVID-19 and nearby apartment reconstruction projects, leading to a decrease in visitors.
Especially at night, the market street was dark with only streetlights, resulting in few passersby and even residents of nearby apartments avoiding the dark streets, making it very difficult for traditional market merchants to operate in the evening.
In response, the district actively reflected the opinions of the Seokchon Market Merchants Association and revitalized the entire market area through facility and environment improvement projects in mid-last month. It is expected that many residents living nearby and visitors will feel safe visiting the market in the evening, further activating the local economy.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Seokchon Market has transformed into a traditional market with attractions and entertainment through the active efforts of merchants. We will continue to provide generous support for local economic revitalization to create a happy Songpa for both residents and merchants.”
