Seoul City Conducts Survey on Family Care Youth Conditions

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 1st that it is conducting a "Youth Family Care Survey" to understand the current status of young people providing family care and to establish a systematic support system.

The survey targets residents of Seoul aged between 14 and 34, including middle and high school students, out-of-school youth, and young adults, all of whom can participate. Participation is possible via an internet link or QR code.

The survey first identifies whether the participant qualifies as a youth family caregiver based on their age and whether they have family members to care for. Then, through multiple-choice questions, it gathers information about the care recipients, difficulties encountered during caregiving, and the types of assistance desired.

After the survey, in-depth interviews will be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the situations faced by youth family caregivers. These interviews will be held with selected volunteers from the survey respondents and will be organized in groups considering factors such as age, household type, and caregiving circumstances.

Ha Young-tae, Director of the Welfare Policy Division, stated, "The approximate scale of youth family caregivers and their service demands identified through this survey will be actively reflected in the 2023 Youth Family Care Pilot Project. We ask for the active participation of young people currently caring for family members." He added, "Since a single survey cannot identify all youth family caregivers, the city will continue to pay close attention to ensure that youth family caregivers do not remain in blind spots."
