Ruling and Opposition Parties Reach Sudden Agreement on Jung-gu New Year Livelihood Budget

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Ahead of the New Year of the Year of the Rabbit, the ruling and opposition parties of the Seoul Jung-gu Council, which had been in conflict over the main budget review, have reached a sudden agreement on the New Year's livelihood budget.

On the 29th at 1 p.m., Assemblyman So Jae-kwon (People Power Party) and Assemblyman Yoon Pan-oh (Democratic Party) gathered in the district mayor's office and pledged to "cooperate and communicate with each other to realize the common goal of residents' happiness and welfare improvement."

According to the agreement jointly signed by the ruling and opposition parties that day, a special session will be held as soon as possible to allocate the amount cut from the 2023 main budget through a supplementary budget.

As a result, major projects such as urban development and livelihood budgets for revitalizing the local economy, and welfare, safety, education, and culture to improve residents' quality of life, which had been cut, will be reflected in next year's supplementary budget.

District Mayor Kim Gil-seong has earnestly requested that the council prioritize residents and carry out legislative activities for them, fearing that the damage from the significantly reduced 2023 budget would directly affect the residents.

On that day, the ruling and opposition parties agreed that livelihood is the top priority amid the stagnant domestic and international economic situation, and to give residents a message of positivity and hope in these bleak conditions, they agreed to cooperate and communicate beyond conflicts and confrontations in a magnanimous manner.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "Our 1,200 Jung-gu office employees are ready to work for the residents," and added, "I am grateful and pleased that the hope created by the consideration and harmony of the ruling and opposition parties will be launched throughout Jung-gu, allowing us to meet residents with various policies in the New Year 2023."
