[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that it is promoting early dementia screening for residents aged 60 and over who have not been diagnosed with dementia.
The early dementia screening can be done at dementia safety centers, health branches, and clinics, and for residents with mobility difficulties, a ‘visiting early dementia screening’ is being intensively conducted by visiting senior centers and welfare centers for the elderly.
If cognitive decline is suspected through cognitive screening tests, in-depth examinations are conducted, and differential tests such as blood tests and brain imaging are also provided through contracted hospitals including Jangseong Hospital.
The county supports the screening costs for all residents who require differential tests.
Residents diagnosed with dementia are provided with protective supplies such as nutritional supplements, and medical and pharmaceutical expenses up to 30,000 KRW per month are also supported.
Cognitive stimulation programs and care services to improve dementia symptoms are also operated.
A county official said, “If dementia is detected early and appropriate treatment is received, it is possible to cure or suppress the progression to severe stages,” and added, “We strongly encourage residents aged 60 and over to undergo early dementia screening.”
