The 'Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival' has been held every January 1st to pray for the well-being and happiness of Seongdong-gu residents, but it had not been held due to the spread of COVID-19.
However, to welcome the new year of the Black Rabbit, the festival will be held again at 7 a.m. on January 1, 2023, at the summit of Eungbongsan after three years.
The Eungbongsan Octagonal Pavilion is considered a famous spot in Seongdong-gu where you can watch the sunrise from the highest point. Prior to the event, the district prioritized safety by holding a joint safety meeting chaired by the deputy mayor and conducting joint inspections with related organizations such as the fire station and police station, completing thorough preparations for a safe event. On the day of the event, vehicle traffic on the access road to the Eungbongsan summit will be restricted, CCTV monitoring will be intensified, and 84 safety personnel will be deployed at key points.
The sunrise festival on the day will begin with a street performance by a local pungmul group, followed by a large drum performance with residents born in the Year of the Rabbit, a performance by the male four-member popera group Cairo, and a wish tree writing event, offering hopeful programs to welcome the new year.
Additionally, for the early morning sunrise crowd, the Eungbong-dong residents' group will prepare a warm coffee and food market near the badminton court close to the Eungbongsan summit.
Seongdong-gu Mayor Jung Won-oh said, "Everyone has endured a long tunnel of COVID-19," and added, "As we hold the sunrise festival for the first time in a while, we will welcome the hopeful start of the Gyemyo Year together with residents at Eungbongsan with thorough safety inspections and full preparations."

Furthermore, the district has established a safety management plan for a safe event. Before the event, a site inspection was conducted to remove hazards. On the day, about 90 safety personnel will be deployed to maintain order and safety, and safety and medical booths will be operated to prepare for emergencies.
Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, "It is a new feeling to hold the sunrise event after three years and to start the new year vigorously with residents. Above all, thanks to Donghaeng-gil, it is more meaningful and joyful to meet more residents at the Bonghwasan summit," adding, "In 2023, as a warm neighbor and friend-like mayor, I will do my best to communicate by walking every corner and to create a happier and newer Jungnang-gu."
Bonghwasan, where the event is held, is an urban mountain spanning Sinnae-dong, Muk-dong, Junghwa-dong, and Sangbong-dong, featuring attractions such as Onggi Theme Park, a water playground, and Bonghwasan trail, making it a popular destination year-round.

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Sung-heon) will hold a sunrise event to pray for New Year's wishes near the Ansan (鞍山) beacon tower, a famous sunrise viewing spot, on January 1, 2023.
At 6:40 a.m., participants will depart from the entrance of 'Meeting Plaza' behind Seodaemun-gu Office at Ansan. Guide lights installed along the way and safety personnel stationed approximately every 50 meters will lead participants to the sunrise viewing location.
After climbing Ansan for about 20 to 30 minutes, passing Yeonheung Mineral Spring and Muak Pavilion, participants will reach the helicopter pad.
There, a 'Wish Fulfillment Large Drum Performance' event will be held where participants can shout their New Year's wishes and play the drum. Also, participants can exchange New Year's greetings and take commemorative photos with a rabbit doll symbolizing the Gyemyo Year at the photo zone.
At the beacon tower, participants will enjoy the sunrise at the expected time of 7:37 a.m. with a three cheers chant.
Ansan is a place that families can climb without burden and offers views of Seoul landmarks such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Inwangsan, and Namsan Tower.
The event prioritizes safety with prior safety inspections of ramps and stairs, concentrated deployment of safety personnel in expected crowded areas, 'Watch Your Step' signboards, control of the number of people entering the beacon tower, and separation of ascending and descending routes.
Seodaemun-gu maintains close cooperation with Seodaemun Police Station, Seodaemun Fire Station, and Seodaemun Health Center. The event may be canceled in case of weather warnings due to cold waves or heavy snow on the day.
Seodaemun-gu Mayor Lee Sung-heon said, "I expect this to be a meaningful time to share New Year's greetings with neighbors and pray for a hopeful 2023 and the well-being of residents on the first day of the new year."

Yeongdeungpo-gu Cancels New Year's Sunrise Festival... Full Closure of Seonyugyo Bridge and Deployment of Safety Personnel from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on January 1st
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced the cancellation of the 'Gyemyo Year Sunrise Festival' and will implement safety management around Seonyugyo Bridge and its vicinity, a local sunrise viewing spot, to prevent crowd congestion and ensure residents' safety.
The district has held the 'Sunrise Festival' with residents every January 1st at Seonyugyo Bridge and Yanghwa Hangang Park, but since 2021, the festival has been canceled to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and Seonyugyo Bridge has been fully closed.
The 'Sunrise Festival' will also be canceled in 2023, and Seonyugyo Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. on January 1st for safe New Year's sunrise viewing. From 6:30 a.m., the on-site control center will distribute entrance stickers to the first 400 people, allowing only a limited number to watch the sunrise on Seonyugyo Bridge, while others can safely view the sunrise from Yanghwa Hangang Park below the bridge.
Accordingly, the section from Seongsu Sky Bridge to Seonyugyo Bridge connecting Yanghwa Hangang Park and Seonyudo will be completely closed to the public from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on January 1, 2023. From 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., only citizens with entrance stickers can access Seonyugyo Bridge. Those with stickers must watch the sunrise in the zone matching their sticker color.
Also, the pedestrian bridge to Seonyudo, which connects Yangpyeong 2-dong and Yanghwa Hangang Park, will remain open, but staying for long periods to watch the sunrise on the bridge is prohibited.
The district will divide the area into color-coded zones to prevent crowding in specific sections and ensure safe viewing. Safety personnel will be concentrated in areas expected to be crowded to provide guidance on Seonyugyo Bridge control.
Yeongdeungpo-gu has conducted prior safety inspections of Seonyugyo Bridge and Seonyudo area in cooperation with the Hangang Project Headquarters, Seonyudo Park, Yeongdeungpo Police Station, Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, and related departments. An emergency response system will be established to manage crowds and safety at the sunrise spot.
For more details on Seonyugyo Bridge control and entrance restrictions, contact Yeongdeungpo-gu Culture and Sports Division.
Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, "We will focus all efforts on safety management to prevent accidents that may occur when many sunrise viewers gather on the narrow and high bridge at once," adding, "Please refrain from visiting Seonyugyo Bridge for the safety of yourself and neighbors and participate in a safe New Year's celebration."
