[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] Amy (real name Lee Yoon-ji, 40), a broadcaster who was punished twice for propofol and zolpidem use and deported, then re-entered the country and again engaged in drug use, has been sentenced to prison.
The Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Justice Noh Jung-hee) announced on the 25th that it upheld the original sentence of 3 years imprisonment for Amy, who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances), and 3 years and 6 months imprisonment for her accomplice Mr. Oh.
Amy was prosecuted for purchasing methamphetamine, ketamine, and ecstasy five times from February to August last year, and for using methamphetamine six times from April to August of the same year. In August last year, Amy was also charged with attempted drug trafficking after being arrested by an undercover police officer while trying to purchase drugs.
During the trial, Amy claimed that the drug use occurred while she was involuntarily confined by Mr. Oh, but this was not accepted.
The first and second trials sentenced Amy to 3 years imprisonment and her accomplice Mr. Oh to 3 years and 6 months imprisonment. The court also ordered completion of a 40-hour drug addiction treatment program.
The Supreme Court also agreed with the lower courts' rulings.
