Seoul City Conducts Special Inspections on Private Construction Sites... Over 550 Cases Improved

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that it conducted a joint safety inspection involving the city, district offices, and experts on 530 private construction sites in five selected districts, including Jung-gu, from October 12 to November 22. The inspection covered the entire construction process from demolition to occupancy approval, detecting over 550 violations and deficiencies in safety, construction, and quality management.

The main inspection items included ▲whether the safety management reinforcement measures for demolition and new construction sites prepared by the Seoul Metropolitan Government had been implemented on-site, the establishment and compliance with demolition and safety management plans, and the actual conditions of site safety, construction, quality, and fire prevention, covering the overall construction process.

As a result of the inspection, 557 violations and deficiencies were identified throughout the entire construction process, from demolition and building permits to groundbreaking, excavation, and framework work. It was confirmed that the practice of ignoring safety still persists, with construction personnel neglecting basic safety rules due to indifference and convenience.

The city immediately ordered reinforcement and improvement of the 557 detected violations and deficiencies and requested the relevant district offices to strictly enforce administrative and legal measures such as prosecution, penalty points, and fines according to the nature of the violations.

Choi Jin-seok, Director of Safety Management at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, “Adhering to basic safety rules on-site is not only for oneself but also for the consideration of others, and accidents can be prevented simply by following safety rules.” He added, “Everyone’s efforts are necessary to prevent further tragic casualties, and we will continue to carefully monitor and strive to establish a culture of safety.”
