As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters!
The first is what kind of alcohol do you usually enjoy drinking? Soju, beer, whiskey, Makgeolli, wine... there are plenty of options. The second is what kind of food do you eat with that drink? In fancy terms, this is called pairing. Pairing means a combination that goes well together. Chicken and beer, Makgeolli and jeon?seeing these examples makes it easy to understand, right? I’m curious if everyone has their own favorite pairing.
Actually, I’m neither particularly fond of nor against alcohol. (You know those people who enjoy the atmosphere of drinking rather than the alcohol itself? That’s exactly me^^*) I just like alcohol, so I tend to try various things without hesitation. I’m going to share the pairing combinations I’ve discovered that way.
Pasta + Soju
Are there people who applaud this combination? Then you share my taste, so don’t miss out until the end. Especially those whose main drink is soju, pay close attention. I’ve always needed a soup dish when drinking soju. The spicy broth can mask the alcohol scent that hits your throat when soju goes down.
But who would have thought I’d end up eating pasta as an anju? I love the thick texture and the sauce so abundant it spills over. Aglio e olio, tomato, rose, carbonara?anything is welcome. The refreshing taste of soju combined with soft noodles?once you try it, you’ll fall for this charm. Whether it’s the first round or a simple second or third round, it’s an excellent choice. Trust me!
Vegetable Gopchang + Red Wine
It was the day I rented a rooftop space to enjoy a small year-end party with friends. Since it was the end of the year, we wanted to set the mood with wine. I pondered for a while about what anju would go well with wine. I remembered hearing somewhere that “wine pairing is best with foods of the same color as the wine,” so I chose vegetable gopchang. It’s also perfect for delivery.
The combination of Pinot Noir, the most famous light-bodied red wine, with spicy vegetable gopchang was quite refreshing. The aroma of red fruits enveloped my entire mouth, and the tannins weren’t too strong, making it easier to drink. Taking a bite of the spicy vegetable gopchang followed by a sip of wine made me feel like I had truly reached the pinnacle of wine enjoyment. Actually, I had prepared white wine too, but the atmosphere got me drunk in the first round, and I was so intoxicated by the perfect pairing that I couldn’t drink it?let’s keep that a secret♥
Pizza + Makgeolli
I don’t just like pizza. I love it madly-♥ How could I not love all the toppings on the dough and the savory cheese covering them? One evening, I wanted pizza for dinner but felt ordering a whole pie for delivery was too much, so I took a slice to go.
To fully enjoy even a slice of pizza, I went to a convenience store to buy a carbonated drink. The moment I walked in, what caught my eye was Makgeolli. Thinking about the combination of pizza, often called the Western jeon, with Korea’s traditional alcohol made me feel proud. It was similar to eating jeon with Makgeolli, but the fresh pairing made me regret not ordering a whole pie. If I get the chance, I want to try K-pizza with wine!
There’s no perfect pairing! It’s all about what makes you happy and tastes good to you. Everyone, try anything and everything~ Try~ Try~ And if you find your own recommended pairing, please let Drinkeat know via Instagram DM. I shared mine, so promise not to just take the info without sharing back. Promise!
