Yeongam-gun Appoints 13 Senior Human Rights Guardians

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Yeongam-gun announced on the 22nd that it appointed 13 human rights guardians for elderly care facilities on the 20th, with the attendance of officials from elderly care facilities.

This appointment ceremony was organized to protect the human rights of residents in elderly care facilities and to prevent elder abuse.

In particular, a meaningful session was held by inviting Kang Hee-sook, director of the Jeonnam Western Elder Protection Agency, to provide education on elderly human rights, cases of human rights violations within facilities, and prevention of elder abuse.

The human rights guardians for elderly care facilities conduct monthly visits to 10 care homes, directly monitoring the human rights of facility directors, elderly residents, and staff, interviewing residents, listening to their difficulties, and acting as facilitators to protect the rights of the elderly and promote facility development.

Governor Woo Seung-hee said, “I expect the activities of the human rights guardians for elderly care facilities to be meaningful efforts to protect the precious human rights of vulnerable groups.”
