Policy Suggestions from a Father Raising 9 and 8 Siblings Draw Attention
Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam and the Uiryeong expert group, the 'Policy Advisory Group,' have joined forces to advance county administration.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam Province and the Uiryeong expert group ‘Policy Advisory Panel’ have joined forces for the development of county administration.
On the 20th, the county held a regular meeting of the Policy Advisory Panel in the conference room on the 4th floor of the county office. At the meeting, they gathered opinions on the current status of policy implementation for proposals made through the 2022 Policy Advisory Panel and on the 2023 county administration direction and policy priorities.
The meeting featured a heated discussion that lasted an hour longer than expected, with the conclusion from Uiryeong County and the Policy Advisory Panel being “Let’s lift even a blank sheet of paper together.” County Governor Oh Tae-wan requested help for Uiryeong’s development, and the Policy Advisory Panel members expressed their willingness to actively cooperate for the citizens of Uiryeong during these difficult times.
Since his election, Governor Oh has strengthened the function of the Policy Advisory Panel by significantly increasing the number of members from 15 to 40 through ordinance amendments.
The advisory panel was subdivided into committees by sector, including education and administration, economy and industry, construction and urban development, agriculture and forestry, and culture and tourism, holding quarterly committee meetings.
Through multiple rounds of opinion gathering, they have made 20 policy proposals, and after review by the responsible departments, 14 of them, excluding 6 for long-term review, have been reflected in policies and are currently being implemented.
Representative proposed policies include the creation of the Jeongam Namgang Riverside Camping Site and installation of experience facilities, establishment of a Uiryeong local food store, and development of a forest leisure sports complex.
In particular, policy proposals from fathers with many children drew attention. Mr. Park Seong-yong, raising nine siblings, and Mr. Joo Woong-il, raising eight siblings, requested the expansion of support for large families to make Uiryeong a better place to raise children. Governor Oh showed strong determination to discover special Uiryeong-type policies for families with a second or third child or more.
Additionally, ideas for new projects next year poured out, such as enhancing the effectiveness of the Happy Learning Center operation, dispersing visitor routes to revitalize traditional markets, and creating poetry monuments where literature and culture can be enjoyed.
Governor Oh said, “With the help of Uiryeong County’s policy experts, it’s like setting sail with a favorable wind,” and added, “Together with my family working for Uiryeong’s development, I will work hard next year for even greater achievements.”
