14 Local Governments Including Haenam-gun, Jeonnam Recognized for Excellence in Cultural Heritage Management

On the 22nd, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that it will award the Commissioner of the Cultural Heritage Administration Award to fourteen outstanding local governments selected through this year's cultural heritage management capacity diagnosis. These include Haenam-gun in Jeollanam-do, Asan-si in Chungcheongnam-do, Tongyeong-si in Gyeongsangnam-do, Gurye-gun in Jeollanam-do, Namyangju-si in Gyeonggi-do, Gyeongju-si in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Buyeo-gun in Chungcheongnam-do, Gongju-si in Chungcheongnam-do, Nam-gu in Gwangju Metropolitan City, Muju-gun in Jeollabuk-do, Cheongju-si in Chungcheongbuk-do, Jung-gu in Daegu Metropolitan City, and Tongyeong-si in Gyeongsangnam-do. As for metropolitan local governments, Chungcheongnam-do and Gwangju Metropolitan City were selected. The former has many basic local governments with excellent cultural heritage management capabilities, while the latter has a high proportion of basic local governments whose cultural heritage management capabilities have improved compared to the previous year. Since 2020, the Cultural Heritage Administration has been conducting capacity diagnosis and consulting together with the Korea Cultural Heritage Policy Research Institute to enable local governments to self-assess their cultural heritage management foundation and capacity levels and to enhance their management capabilities.
