[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) activated emergency duty level 2 from the early morning of the 21st to minimize inconvenience to residents caused by heavy snowfall and to prevent safety accidents such as slipping. Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi and all staff participated in snow removal operations.

The district inspected major roads, slopes, and vulnerable areas, and carried out snow removal using equipment such as large spreaders to clear roads and prevent traffic accidents.

In addition, all employees cleared snow piled up in narrow roads and alleys throughout the 16 neighborhoods where vehicle access was difficult.

Especially, facilities frequently used by residents such as Bonghwasan Donghaeng-gil, Yongmasan Barrier-Free Trail, Jungnangcheon Yeonyukgyo Bridge, and river access slopes were promptly restricted for passage and snow removal was conducted.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi, who participated in snow removal at Mangwoo History and Culture Park, said, “Above all, the safety of residents is the top priority. We will continue to respond quickly and thoroughly to heavy snowfall so that everyone can safely get through the winter. We also ask residents to actively participate in creating a safe Jungnang by clearing snow in front of their homes and stores for each other's safety.”

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a snow removal strategy meeting on the 20th in response to the heavy snow advisory and launched emergency duty level 2 for snow removal.

At 5 p.m. on the 20th, the Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters was activated, gathering district executives and six task forces to monitor weather conditions and devise comprehensive snow removal measures.

At 10 p.m., emergency duty level 2 for snow removal began, with snow removal materials loaded and work routes deployed forward.

At 3 a.m. on the 21st, snow removal agents were sprayed early on side roads and main roads, and road heating systems were activated. Second and third rounds of spraying were conducted to ensure thorough snow removal, and automatic brine sprayers were also operated.

From 5 a.m., snow removal was carried out at bus stops and sidewalks to ensure safe commutes. Around 7 a.m., support duties were dispatched to 15 neighborhoods, deploying about 380 personnel. Additionally, 28 mobile equipment units including dump trucks, excavators, and forklifts, along with a total of 65 tons of snow removal agents such as calcium chloride and salt, were mobilized.

Snow removal and calcium chloride spraying continue to be focused on vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, mountain passes, and bus stops. Additional spraying will be conducted as needed based on weather conditions.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho visited the Gwangjin-gu Snow Removal Development Base to check the operation status of snow removal equipment and stockpiles of materials, urging full efforts without relaxation to ensure residents' safety and convenience.

He also visited the entrance of Yongamsa Temple in Junggok 4-dong, Seoul Dongui Elementary School in Guui 2-dong, and Gwangjang Information Library in Gwangjang-dong?areas with many slopes vulnerable to snow removal?to thoroughly check the operation of road heating and automatic brine spraying devices.

Furthermore, he carefully inspected snow removal conditions in vulnerable areas within the district to ensure there were no risks of safety accidents.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho reiterated that “resident safety is the highest priority,” and said, “We will respond quickly and thoroughly to sudden heavy snowfall so that residents can have a winter free of safety accidents.”

Along with this, Seongbuk-gu is fully mobilizing administrative resources to carry out snow removal operations. On this day, emergency duty level 2 was declared, and snow removal was conducted on 46 main and side road routes including Jeongneung-ro, apartment access roads, and other major side roads to minimize resident damage such as safety accidents. Cooperation was provided not only by district employees but also by private companies and professional organizations. In addition to district snow removal vehicles, private equipment was prepared for additional deployment in case of emergencies to ensure thoroughness.

Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We are closely monitoring weather conditions 24 hours a day and responding quickly and efficiently to heavy snowfall.
