[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The Honam Headquarters of the Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 21st that it will officially begin the "Jeolla Line Jeonju Station Expansion Project" early next year to enhance public safety and service levels in response to the increased demand for the use of Jeonju Station facilities.
The Honam Headquarters completed the detailed design after conducting an international design competition to discover the design for the newly expanded Jeonju Station. In November, it finalized pre-construction procedures by signing construction management service contracts and sector-specific (architecture, fire safety) construction contracts without any delays.
The existing Jeonju Station building will be preserved, and the newly expanded Jeonju Station behind it will be a three-story above-ground and one-story underground structure (4,754㎡). The plan is to significantly expand the waiting rooms and customer convenience facilities compared to the current passenger facilities. Additionally, the existing parking lot in front of the station (97 spaces) will be relocated and expanded to secure parking spaces for 228 vehicles both above and underground. This will also help resolve traffic congestion in the station plaza in connection with the Jeonju City Integrated Transfer Center project.
Yoo Sung-gi, head of the Honam Headquarters of the Korea Rail Network Authority, stated, "We will thoroughly prepare for the construction to safely build a premium Jeonju Station that can become a regional landmark, contributing to the development of railway architecture and the creation of regional added value."
