Multiple Slipping Accidents Occur Across Gyeongnam Due to Early Morning Snow and Rain

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Due to snow and rain that fell across the entire Gyeongnam province from the early morning of the 21st, traffic accidents occurred in various locations throughout the province.

According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters and Changwon Fire Headquarters, at around 5:42 a.m., a vehicle slid on an icy road in front of the main gate of Korea GM in Seongsan-gu and crashed into the central divider.

At around 6:24 a.m., two vehicles collided at Yongam Samgeori in Yonggang-ri, Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, and at 6:44 a.m., 14 vehicles slid and collided one after another while driving on an icy road in Pyungseong-ri, Naeseo-eup, Masanhwoewon-gu.

At around 6:35 a.m., a single-vehicle accident occurred in Sang-ri, Goseong-gun, and at 6:40 a.m., another single-vehicle accident happened in Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun. At 6:41 a.m., a six-vehicle pileup occurred on the national road in Jinrye-myeon, Gimhae-si, injuring two people.

One minute later, at 6:42 a.m., 14 vehicles collided near the Gimhae Jinrye Junction on the Namhae Expressway, and at 7:33 a.m., six vehicles collided at Chodong Samgeori in Miryang-si.

At 6:48 a.m., a single-vehicle accident occurred in Jung-ri, Naeseo-eup, Masanhwoewon-gu, and at 6:58 a.m., two vehicles collided in Yongjam-ri, Dong-eup, Uichang-gu.

At around 7:26 a.m., a city bus slipped on an icy road in Ingok-ri, Jinbuk-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, injuring about 80 passengers and others.

At 7:34 a.m., a 1-ton truck accident occurred in Sinchon-ri, Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, and at 7:20 a.m., a person in their 70s slipped while walking on the sidewalk in Sangnam-dong, Masanhappo-gu.

On this day, traffic accidents caused by rainy and icy roads in the province totaled 69 cases in the morning alone, with 19 people injured and transported to hospitals.

There were 8 cases in Jinju, 3 in Sacheon, 14 in Gimhae, 7 in Miryang, 3 in Yangsan, 2 in Haman, 2 in Changnyeong, 1 in Goseong, 3 in Hadong, 1 in Sancheong, 1 in Hamyang, and 3 in Hapcheon. Changwon reported 19 cases as of 8 a.m.

Gyeongnam Province entered an emergency duty system on the afternoon of the 20th as an initial response stage to heavy snow and cold wave disasters, and preemptively spread de-icing agents on major roads from the evening.

From the early morning of the 21st, de-icing work has been focused on vulnerable sections such as habitual freezing zones, and automatic de-icing devices have been activated.
