Hyundai Mobis announced on the 21st that it is partnering with Israeli startup Ottopia to develop a remote support solution for autonomous driving.
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hyundai Mobis announced on the 21st that it will develop an autonomous driving remote support solution together with the Israeli startup Autopia.
The Remote Mobility Assistance (RMA) solution is a technology that remotely moves unmanned future mobility devices or recalculates their routes. Robo-taxi operators hand over control when an emergency occurs during operation. Then, a manager in the control room can control the mobility device to move the driver to a safe location. It is a technology that enables vehicle control from a distance while viewing screens, similar to KITT from the American drama Knight Rider aired in Korea or the remote-controlled car in the movie Mission: Impossible.
RMA can also serve as a kind of customer service center. The company explains that it is inefficient for operators providing unmanned mobility services to each build customer service networks to respond to emergencies, so RMA can complement this. It will also include ▲a 5th generation (5G) communication modem based on a high-performance electronic control unit (ECU) ▲software platform functions that can provide customized services to customers.
Autopia is responsible for developing the RMA-related software. Founded by Israeli security experts, Autopia will develop over-the-air (OTA) updates and a real-time mobility management service called Fleet. Hyundai Mobis expects to expand its customer base through the commercialization of RMA. They anticipate potential customers not only among robo-taxi companies but also unmanned mobility logistics operators, construction, and agricultural machinery companies.
This project is one of Hyundai Mobis's mid- to long-term innovation strategies announced last year. The two companies plan to launch full-scale marketing activities for the RMA solution starting next year.
