[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] On the 19th (local time), Russia launched drone airstrikes on various locations including Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, according to reports by The Guardian and others.

According to the reports, Kyiv military authorities announced via Telegram that Iranian-made drones were detected over the capital in the early morning, and some of them were shot down. Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of Kyiv, stated that critical infrastructure was damaged and two people were injured.

The attack occurred in the early morning under subzero temperatures, with air raid alarms starting around 2 a.m. Local media reported explosions in the center of Kyiv as well as multiple explosions heard in nearby areas of the city.

Recently, Russia has been conducting airstrikes mainly during the dark hours before sunrise to evade Ukraine’s air defense systems.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced that out of at least 35 suicide drones launched by Russia from the east of the Sea of Azov toward various parts of Ukraine, 30 were shot down on this day.
