[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) will recruit candidates for the "2023 Gijang-gun Residents Health Promotion Project" for 10 days from January 2 to January 13, 2023.
The "Gijang-gun Residents Health Promotion Project" is a program that supports residents' health examination costs in cooperation with the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center to help residents lead healthy lives.
Over the past 13 years, an annual county budget of 1 billion KRW has been invested, supporting a total of over 12 billion KRW in examination costs, and by 2022, more than 18,000 residents have received support.
In 2023, the support fund will be expanded to 1.2 billion KRW annually to enable more residents to receive health examinations than before.
The total number of selected candidates this time is 1,850 (800 full support, 1,050 partial support). Applications can be submitted at the five eup/myeon administrative welfare centers in Gijang-gun during the recruitment period. After a candidate review committee meeting at the end of February, selected candidates will be announced on the Gijang-gun website.
Selected residents can choose between a comprehensive cancer screening or cerebrovascular examination and will receive the examination at the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center.
Residents aged 65 or older, national merit recipients, basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, single-parent families, and registered disabled persons will receive full support of 800,000 KRW for examination costs. Residents aged 40 or older who do not meet these conditions will receive 700,000 KRW support, allowing them to undergo expensive examinations by paying only a 100,000 KRW personal contribution.
Eligibility for application is based on having a residence in Gijang-gun as of the announcement date (December 19, 2022) and having lived continuously for more than three years, or for those relocated from other regions due to nuclear power plant construction, having had resident registration in Gijang-eup's Gori, Hyoam-ri, or Gilcheon-ri before May 31, 2003, and having lived continuously for more than three years, and being aged 40 or older.
For foreigners, those who have foreigner registration in Gijang-gun and have continuously resided for more than three years, and who are married to a Korean citizen and aged 40 or older, are eligible to apply.
A Gijang-gun official stated, "As the era of 100 years of life arrives, interest in healthy living has increased. The foundation of maintaining health is prevention. Through this project, we expect to reduce the burden of health examination costs and help residents lead healthy lives by early detection of diseases through examinations."
