Recognized by International Environmental Impact Assessment Standards

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Dongkuk Steel announced on the 19th that it has obtained the international Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for its Luxsteel and galvanized steel sheet (GI, GL) product lines.
The Environmental Product Declaration certification is awarded to products that quantify and disclose the environmental impact throughout the entire process, from raw material extraction to production, distribution, and disposal, aiming to provide accurate environmental information to enhance eco-friendliness.
Dongkuk Steel acquired certification from International EPD, a European international certification body, to respond to the global demand for eco-friendly color steel sheets and galvanized steel sheet products.
Dongkuk Steel’s EPD certification is a professional certification body-level certification obtained after on-site inspections by institutional evaluators and review by a committee, offering greater credibility compared to document-only certifications.
The Luxsteel and galvanized steel sheets certified with the EPD account for more than half of Dongkuk Steel’s annual export sales in the cold-rolled steel segment.
With this certification, Dongkuk Steel expects its product competitiveness to improve amid export regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
In November last year, Dongkuk Steel obtained GR certification (domestic recycled raw material usage certification) for rebar and shaped steel products at its Incheon and Pohang plants from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s National Institute of Technology and Standards, and now has acquired EPD certification for galvanized steel sheets and Luxsteel at its Busan plant.
Dongkuk Steel plans to pursue EPD certification for all products across all its factories in the future.
