[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] KT announced on the 16th that it is preparing to expand its outdoor autonomous driving robot business in collaboration with Neubility, a company specializing in autonomous driving robot technology.
Neubility started as a startup in 2017 and possesses core hardware and software technologies for camera-based autonomous driving robots. Instead of using Lidar sensors, Neubility uses cameras to achieve price competitiveness. Through this, it has been accumulating various autonomous driving service experiences by utilizing the autonomous delivery robot 'Neubie' and the commercial robot service (Robotics as a Service, RaaS) platform 'Neubie Go.'
KT and Neubility aim to provide convenient experiences to the public in daily life through the commercialization of outdoor autonomous driving robot services. To this end, the two companies signed a business agreement at KT's Songpa headquarters, attended by Lee Sang-ho, head of KT's AI Robot Business Division, and Lee Sang-min, CEO of Neubility.
The agreement mainly covers joint research on technology and resources for interworking between robots and platforms, stable commercialization of robot services based on technology and infrastructure, and joint responses to regulations and hurdles for the expansion of domestic robot services. KT will be responsible for providing the robot integration platform, 5G infrastructure, and sales activities, while cooperating with Neubility in autonomous driving robot development and product development using robots.
Since last year, KT has launched robot products such as AI service robots, AI quarantine robots, and AI hotel robots based on its self-developed robot integration platform. KT plans to expand services, which were previously limited to indoor spaces, to outdoor areas, preparing to provide robot services anywhere people live, including apartments, resorts, and urban areas.
