Gangwon-do, African Swine Fever (ASF) Quarantine Zone 'Movement Restrictions Lifted'

Pre-Inspection and Quarantine Measures for Pig Movement and Shipment at Farms and Livestock Facilities

Gangwon-do, African Swine Fever (ASF) Quarantine Zone 'Movement Restrictions Lifted' [Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The African Swine Fever (ASF) Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters in Gangwon Province announced on the 15th that the movement restriction measures on 24 farms within the quarantine zone (within 10km of the infected farm) in Cheorwon-gun, where ASF occurred last month at a pig farm (Farm No. 1), have been lifted as of 0:00 on the 15th.

This measure was taken because no additional outbreaks have occurred since the culling completion date of the infected farm (November 11), and detailed inspections of pigs and the environment at both the infected farm and farms within the quarantine zone confirmed negative results (as of November 14).

Accordingly, pig farms within the quarantine zone will have restrictions on the movement of pigs, manure, and livestock vehicles lifted.

Previously, the province implemented proactive quarantine measures including a 24-hour temporary movement suspension in Cheorwon-gun and adjacent cities/counties near the Civilian Control Line (Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje, Goseong), blocking the movement of pigs and manure from farms within the quarantine and epidemiological zones, prohibiting pig entry and exit with other regions, and operating quarantine control and disinfection checkpoints at farms.

Additionally, emergency telephone surveillance was conducted targeting all pig farms in the province (197 farms), comprehensive inspections were carried out on pig farms (69 farms) in Cheorwon-gun and adjacent cities/counties near the Civilian Control Line, and disinfection was performed at livestock-related facilities including farms, feed companies, manure treatment companies, and slaughterhouses.

The provincial countermeasures headquarters urged, "Pig farms should not lower their guard on quarantine boundaries, strictly adhere to biosecurity protocols, and immediately report any abnormal signs in pigs to the relevant city or county authorities."
