Malicious App Detection Just by Opening the App... Effective One Month After Feature Introduction
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Fintech startup Finda has detected over 1,100 malicious apps within a month after introducing a feature that detects financial scam apps simply by running the application (app) to prevent voice phishing.
Finda announced on the 15th that since the introduction of the 'FakeFinder' solution on the 10th of last month, it has discovered more than 1,100 malicious apps, preventing financial scam damage for about 37 people per day.
FakeFinder, introduced by Finda, is a malicious app blocking solution created by the security specialist company Everspin. When a user opens the Finda app, if a malicious app is detected on the mobile device, the Finda app immediately notifies the user with a message about the type and risk of the malicious app and assists with its deletion. Even financially vulnerable groups exposed to voice phishing and smishing crimes due to poor mobile device handling can check for malicious apps simply by opening the Finda app.
In addition, Finda is strengthening its identity verification system to allow the use of Finda services only through the user's own mobile device. Within this month, it plans to add an enhanced MO (Message Oriented) authentication system targeting Android users. MO authentication can accurately identify the sender number provided by the telecom operator, thereby preventing voice phishing through false message transmission.
Furthermore, various features such as app tampering prevention, source code obfuscation, and encryption have been applied. Instead of merely changing the names of application programming interfaces (APIs), the flow of the source code is altered, and strings are encrypted. AhnLab's security-specialized cloud management service, 'AhnLab Cloud,' has also already been introduced.
Lee Hyemin, co-CEO of Finda, emphasized, "As financial crimes are becoming more sophisticated day by day, our top priority is to enable both customers and financial institutions to safely check and apply for loans through the Finda platform and solutions," adding, "We are designing the system comprehensively so that the Finda service itself can serve as a shield against financial fraud."
