[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Korea Freedom Federation (hereinafter referred to as the Freedom Federation) has nominated former conservative lawmaker Kang Seok-ho as its next president.


According to the Freedom Federation on the 14th, the presidential candidate recommendation committee recently recommended former lawmaker Kang as the sole candidate for the next president.


The Freedom Federation announced the sole recommendation of former lawmaker Kang through a notice convening an extraordinary general meeting on the 9th and requested delegates to submit written resolutions by the 22nd. Subsequently, the agenda to appoint former lawmaker Kang as president will be discussed at the extraordinary general meeting on the 23rd. If former lawmaker Kang is appointed president, his term will be three years from the date of inauguration.


Kang, a native of Pohang, Gyeongbuk, graduated from Jungdong High School in Seoul and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He was elected as a Pohang city council member in the 1991 local elections and officially entered politics when he was elected as a Gyeongbuk provincial council member in the first nationwide simultaneous local elections in 1995. He then served three terms as a lawmaker representing the Yeongdeok, Yeongyang, Bonghwa, and Uljin districts from 2008 to 2020. Since 2020, he has been co-chair of the forum "Towards a Better World" with former lawmaker Kim Moo-sung, and during the last presidential election, he served as the Chair of the National Integration Committee of the People Power Party’s 20th Presidential Central Election Committee.
