[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated, "Private schools are an important educational entity and valuable educational sites," adding, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will focus on support rather than regulation and actively communicate with private school sites."
Superintendent Lim attended the regular general meeting of the Korea Private Elementary, Middle, and High School Corporation Association Gyeonggi Branch held at Suwon Science College Syntex on the 14th, where he gave a special lecture to private school corporation officials.
In his special lecture, Superintendent Lim emphasized, "The role of the Private School Support Division, which handles private school affairs, exists because private schools exist," and added, "We will establish communication channels so that private schools can autonomously operate according to their founding ideals and promote policies based on consensus from the field."
He continued, "What is important is to realize better education for students and education that respects individuality," and urged, "I ask private school sites to have the will to work together with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, to think deeply, and to actively cooperate."
The special lecture was arranged at the request of the Korea Private Elementary, Middle, and High School Corporation Association Gyeonggi Branch as an opportunity to share and communicate major educational policies with private school corporations in the province.
About 150 people attended the regular general meeting, including Superintendent Lim, chairpersons of private schools in the province, and private school corporation officials.
Meanwhile, there are a total of 152 private school corporations in the province, including 128 within the jurisdiction and 24 outside, and a total of 248 private schools.
