[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, successfully held the ‘Urban Regeneration Harmony Festival’ event at the National Sports Center from the 13th to the 14th.
According to the city on the 14th, this event was organized to increase citizens' interest and participation in urban regeneration, strengthen urban regeneration capabilities, and encourage the efforts of urban regeneration activity communities.
In particular, it aimed to share the achievements of the projects so far through presentations of excellent urban regeneration cases and exhibitions of results, and to seek future development directions.
The event was attended by about 300 people, including Vice Mayor Choi Jae-yong, urban regeneration resident councils, urban regeneration activity communities, Jeollabuk-do Urban Regeneration Support Center, and local residents.
The event, held under the theme ‘Urban Regeneration 愛 Colors’, began on the 13th with a performance by the classical team led by Shim Jeong-im, who presented high-quality classical music at easily accessible locations such as Jeongeup Station and a flea market event.
Following this, awards were given to meritorious persons who contributed greatly to urban regeneration activation, progress reports on urban regeneration projects were presented, excellent case presentations were held, a participation-communication-empathy roundtable was conducted, and a city-county urban regeneration mutual cooperation agreement ceremony took place.
On the 14th, an urban regeneration forum was held at the Naejang Sangdong Sympathy Plus Center under the theme ‘Sustainable Hub Facility Management and Village Management Social Cooperative Operation’.
At the forum, after presentations on successful urban regeneration cases in Naju and Cheongju, a comprehensive discussion and Q&A session were held to provide opinions on the direction of urban regeneration.
A city official said, “The success of the Urban Regeneration New Deal project depends on the interest and participation of residents,” adding, “Even if it is difficult and challenging, if all residents take an interest in and participate in urban regeneration, the regeneration and revitalization of the old downtown will surely be achieved.”
Meanwhile, the city is promoting projects centered on the old downtown areas such as Suseong-dong, Yeonji-dong, and Sigidong through urban regeneration projects, including revitalization of commercial districts, provision of entrepreneurship capabilities and infrastructure, environmental maintenance, and construction of happy housing.
