Gwangju Nam-gu Reselected as a 'Family-Friendly Certified Institution' by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been reselected as a family-friendly certified institution for exemplary operation of a family-friendly workplace culture in the 2022 Family-Friendly Certification Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

Since being first selected as a family-friendly certified institution in 2011, Nam-gu has passed all five evaluations up to this year, earning recognition as a local government that harmoniously balances work and family life.

According to Nam-gu on the 14th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced the results of the 2022 Family-Friendly Certification Evaluation conducted on central administrative agencies, local governments, public institutions, local public corporations, and companies.

Since April, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has conducted evaluations in various fields including support for childbirth and child-rearing, implementation of flexible work systems, and creation of family-friendly workplace culture through document reviews and on-site inspections.

Institutions and companies that scored 75 points or more out of 100 for the first time in this evaluation were selected as family-friendly certified institutions, and those previously certified were re-certified as family-friendly institutions until 2025.

Nam-gu received favorable evaluations for promoting a flexible work system centered on performance to improve productivity and morale in the public sector, thereby fostering work-life balance and coexistence of work and family.

Additionally, Nam-gu has taken the lead in creating a family-friendly workplace culture by operating a sabbatical leave system to provide self-development opportunities for long-term public officials, running workplace daycare centers for work-family balance, issuing happiness parking permits for employees using the daycare centers, and supporting maternity protection supplies for pregnant employees.

Furthermore, to guarantee a life with evenings free, Nam-gu operates “Family Love Days” encouraging on-time departure every Wednesday and Friday, providing opportunities for employees to recharge by spending time with their families.

A Nam-gu official stated, “As social environments rapidly change due to low birth rates and increased economic participation of women, fostering a family-friendly culture that contributes to work efficiency and productivity is becoming increasingly important. We will firmly establish conditions for a harmonious life at home and work.”
