'Illegal Fine Dust Emissions Persist in November'... Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Detect 66 Sites Illegal Fine Dust Emission Business Site Detection Case Graphic provided by Gyeonggi Provincial Government

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has identified 66 companies that violated environmental regulations by conducting construction work that generated dust without reporting to the relevant authorities.

The Gyeonggi Province Civil Affairs Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 14th that from the 14th to the 25th of last month, they inspected 360 suspected sites including construction sites emitting large amounts of fine dust and unreported air emission facilities around urban areas within the province, confirming 66 violations.

This crackdown was conducted proactively to manage fine dust emission sites, considering that fine dust concentrations typically rise starting in November each year.

Among the major cases, Company A in Ansan was found to have installed and operated air emission facilities such as painting and separation facilities for automobile repairs without reporting the installation of these air emission facilities to the relevant authorities.

Company B in Gunpo, which operates outdoor painting work, was caught conducting painting operations without reporting the installation of air emission facilities to the relevant authorities and without any air pollution prevention facilities.

Company C in Anyang operated a grinder to treat the surface of metal products without reporting the installation of air emission facilities, and was caught operating with the air pollution prevention facilities turned off despite having them.

Company D in Bucheon was caught for failing to take dust suppression measures such as installing dust nets during grinding work on the exterior walls of high-rise apartments, and Company E in Anseong was caught working without installing temporary partitions or mobile dust collection facilities to prevent dust dispersion.

Company F in Gwacheon was caught for allowing soil dust to leak onto the road by failing to perform wheel washing and side spraying of vehicles when transporting soil generated at the site outside the business premises.

Kim Min-kyung, head of the Gyeonggi Province Civil Affairs Special Judicial Police Unit, stated, "Despite announcing the wide-area investigation of fine dust emission sites in November, when fine dust spikes, through the media in advance, 66 violations were detected." She added, "Strong management and supervision are necessary for fine dust generating sites, and we plan to continue investigations and conduct feedback inspections on the detected sites."
