[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) raised the snow removal countermeasure headquarters to Level 1 on the 13th in preparation for the snow forecast, mobilizing personnel from each neighborhood community center and the headquarters to pre-apply snow removal agents on major arterial roads, side streets, and hazardous areas within the district.
The district plans to closely monitor the weather conditions during the evening rush hour and concentrate administrative efforts on snow removal response.
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) entered Level 1 emergency snow removal duty system on the 13th in response to the forecast of heavy snow and cold wave.
Accordingly, each neighborhood community center and district office department took proactive measures by spreading snow removal agents on major arterial roads, side streets, pedestrian overpasses, and other vulnerable points in the area.
The district has entered a 24-hour emergency duty system, closely monitoring weather conditions in real time, maintaining the pre-established emergency contact system, and mobilizing all administrative power for snow removal response.
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, on the 13th, presented commendations to residents who have worked hard to create a Mapo where everyone lives well together at the Mapo-gu Office auditorium.
The 2022 Autonomous Cooperation Commendation Ceremony awarded 36 individuals and groups in three categories: model citizens, Red Cross, and resident autonomy, including those who contributed to district development, Red Cross membership fundraising, and resident autonomy development.
Mayor Park Kang-su said, “The efforts of everyone doing their best in their respective roles and working for the community have laid the foundation for making Mapo a better place to live,” adding, “We ask for your continued unwavering support and active participation for regional development.”
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 13th at 10:30 a.m. that Kiturami Group (Chairman Choi Jin-min) donated 50 million won as the ‘Kiturami Scholarship’.
The ‘Kiturami Group Scholarship Donation Ceremony’ was held at the Mayor’s Reception Room on the 5th floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office, attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Song Kyung-seok, CEO of Kiturami Holdings, and other Kiturami Group officials.
Kiturami Group donated 50 million won in scholarships to nurture talent by alleviating the financial burden so that university and high school students can seize learning opportunities and fully demonstrate their talents.
Kiturami Group has been practicing various sharing activities, including scholarship support projects, through the Kiturami Cultural Foundation and Kiturami Welfare Foundation established by the founder Chairman Choi Jin-min’s private donation. Since starting the Kiturami Scholarship support project in 1985, it has practiced social responsibility by donating a total of 48 billion won over 37 years.
Song Kyung-seok, CEO of Kiturami Holdings, said, “We hope that talented individuals who will shine in the future of the region can focus on their studies through the Kiturami Scholarship,” adding, “Kiturami Group will continue to steadily carry out scholarship support projects to realize equal educational opportunities for everyone.”
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We thank Kiturami Group for donating scholarships to nurture local talent in Dongdaemun-gu,” adding, “The precious scholarships will be given to talented students in our district, and we will strive to ensure this support contributes to community development. Dongdaemun-gu will also do its best to nurture future talents.”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the 10th anniversary ceremony of the Gwangjin-gu Sign Language Interpretation Center (Director Seok Cheol-min) at the district office auditorium on the 13th.
The event began with a congratulatory performance by a deaf choreographer, followed by a 10th-anniversary commemorative video screening, speeches, and congratulatory remarks. About 150 people, including deaf individuals and their families, disability organizations, and key guests, attended the event.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Seoul Deaf Association Gwangjin-gu branch, which works to promote the rights and welfare of local deaf people, saying, “We will always provide generous support so that deaf people can live happy and comfortable daily lives.”
The Gwangjin-gu Sign Language Interpretation Center and Deaf Shelter opened in 2012 and relocated near Guui Station on Subway Line 2 in 2020, establishing themselves as a comfortable resting place and communication space for local deaf people.
The center employs five sign language interpreters who provide professional interpretation services for the hearing and speech impaired. Services are available whenever sign language interpretation is needed in daily life, such as hospital or public institution visits, events, and education.
Additionally, the center operates various customized programs to help deaf people enjoy welfare and leisure activities, including socialization education, cultural leisure classes, shulrun and table tennis, yoga, and other indoor and outdoor sports.
The resting and lounge areas within the center serve as places where deaf people can socialize and relax comfortably, playing a vital role as a communication hub where they gather to share various information.
Gwangjin-gu plans to continue strengthening cooperation with related organizations such as the Gwangjin-gu Sign Language Interpretation Center to help deaf people adapt to society and enjoy happy lives.
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Seoul’s Gangseo-gu, who has set “Gangseo, a good place to raise children” as the district’s goal, began active communication by visiting local schools on the 13th.
The mayor took a step closer to the educational field to listen to the difficulties of parents and school officials and to directly inspect complaint sites.
On the afternoon of the day, Mayor Kim visited Sinwol Elementary School and Woljeong Elementary School in Hwagok-dong consecutively to listen to opinions on improving the school surroundings.
The communication session was conducted without a fixed format to allow parents and school officials to freely express their opinions.
Mayor Kim immediately responded on-site to issues that could be corrected right away, and promised to provide answers after careful review for matters requiring consultation with related organizations or mid- to long-term consideration.
Especially, Mayor Kim, who listened attentively to every voice of parents, responded that he would immediately correct issues related to children’s safety, receiving great support from parents.
He then inspected vulnerable school facilities where inconveniences were raised and walked the school routes to check the sites directly.
Previously, on the 7th, he visited Deungseo Elementary School and Gyo-nam School, a special school in the area, and on the 9th, he visited Hwagok Elementary School and Hwail Elementary School to listen to voices from the field and directly confirm what students need.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “For issues difficult to resolve within the district or requiring mid- to long-term review, we plan to continuously consult with related organizations,” adding, “We will make more meticulous efforts to ensure our students grow up in a safe environment.”
