The 'Busan City Brandtoon Contest,' held for the first time this year, is a contest co-hosted by the Busan Webtoon Department Union, formed by five universities including Dongseo University's Webtoon Department, in response to the recent boom in domestic webtoon department openings, and Busan City.
The department union includes Busan National University Animation Major, Dongmyung University Webtoon and Animation Department, Dongseo University Webtoon Department, Youngsan University Webtoon Department, and Busan Gyeongsang University HiVE Webtoon Animation Major.
The judges evaluated based on the completeness of the works and the expression of Busan's local government identity, awarding the grand prize to Dongseo University Webtoon Department students Park Jinwoo and Kim Seonghoon, who created a webtoon about the story of 'Goni,' who became the mascot of Saha District, set against the backgrounds of Gamcheon Culture Village and Eulsukdo.
Grand prize winners Park Jinwoo and Kim Seonghoon said, "We feel this is an important milestone in our path as artists, and we will use this momentum to work hard on our creations."
In addition to the grand prize, Dongseo University Webtoon Department also received gold, silver, and encouragement awards.
Professors Kim Myunghwan and Lee Seunghui, who planned and supervised the contest, said, "The result is even more meaningful because it was created by the students' passion," and added, "We will strive to enhance the global competitiveness of Dongseo University's Webtoon Department through advanced webtoon education and 2D graphic education."
