[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] CJ ENM announced on the 13th that it has been listed on all of the top 5 FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV) and AVOD (Ad-supported Video on Demand) platforms in the North American region.
FAST and AVOD refer to internet-based video streaming services that allow users to watch content. Unlike OTT platforms, which are subscription-based video streaming services, these platforms allow viewers to watch content for free by viewing advertisements, leading to rapid growth worldwide.
Following its entry into Samsung TV Plus and Paramount Global’s Pluto TV last year, CJ ENM introduced a CJ ENM brand channel on NBCUniversal’s Peacock this year. Recently, it also began supplying CJ ENM content to Fox’s streaming service Tubi and Roku, one of the largest streaming providers in North America.
On Tubi, content is provided through the ‘K-Drama+’ section. Tubi, which offers over 40,000 movies and entertainment contents worldwide, was acquired and is operated by Fox since 2019. CJ ENM and Tubi plan to launch a separate CJ ENM brand channel within the network page by the end of the year.
On Roku, a FAST-based linear channel service started on the 15th of last month under the channel name ‘About K-Content by CJ ENM.’ Roku is a free streaming platform used by consumers in North America, Latin America, and parts of Europe. It plans to supply various contents, including CJ ENM’s representative seasonal programs such as the popular variety shows ‘Youn’s Kitchen’ and ‘Love Catcher,’ on a monthly basis.
Last month, CJ ENM also launched an SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) service on Apple TV, where users can enjoy the latest content by paying $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. On Apple TV, it operates under the channel name ‘CJ ENM Selects.’ The content is categorized into five major sections to make it easier for North American viewers unfamiliar with Korean content to access.
Kim Do-hyun, Head of CJ ENM IP Overseas Content Business Division, said, "The expansion of FAST and AVOD services in the North American region has laid the foundation to provide CJ ENM content to more viewers." He added, "In addition to major operators, we plan to diversify the content distribution structure through collaboration with other operators in North America and other regions."
