Recognized as the Longest-Standing Domestic Company
and a Sustainable Global Enterprise
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] SK Telecom announced on the 11th that it has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World Index, a sustainability evaluation indicator, for the 14th consecutive year.
SKT was first included in the ‘DJSI World Index’ in 2008, and except for the year 2020, it has been included for a total of 14 years up to this year. This is the longest record of inclusion in the ‘DJSI World Index’ among domestic companies.
The ‘DJSI’ is a sustainability evaluation index announced annually by S&P Global, the world's largest financial information provider. It is widely used as a standard to assess the sustainability management level of global companies and to assist investors in making responsible investment decisions.
This year, 326 companies, accounting for 12.8% of the 2,555 evaluated companies worldwide, were included in the ‘DJSI World Index’, and only 24 domestic companies were included. Being included in the ‘DJSI World Index’ means being recognized as belonging to the top 10% in sustainability management evaluation among the top 2,500 global companies by market capitalization.
SKT explained that this is interpreted as the result of various efforts such as ▲strengthening ESG management system centered on the board of directors ▲implementing taxation in accordance with global standards ▲environmental management to achieve net zero ▲personal information protection ▲and human capital development.
Earlier this year, SKT declared ‘ESG 2.0’ at the shareholders' meeting and announced its commitment to contribute to eco-friendly growth through a green network and the creation of a safe society based on information and communication technology (ICT). To this end, SKT is actively working on integrating network equipment (‘Single LAN’ technology) to achieve ‘Net Zero’, developing high-efficiency communication equipment, and establishing a social safety net using ICT services such as vaccine care calls and voice phishing prevention systems.
This year’s DJSI evaluation results are scheduled to be reflected in the S&P DJSI fund and related ESG index funds at the opening of the U.S. stock market on the 17th.
