Moon, 'Companion Dog Maru' Passes Away... "North Korean Pungsan Dog Gomi and Inter-Korean Collaboration" Former President Moon Jae-in with Maru

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] Former President Moon Jae-in announced the death of his pet dog Maru on the 10th.

On the afternoon of the same day, former President Moon posted on social media such as Facebook, "Today, Maru passed away to the other world. During the morning walk, he slowly sat down and soon took his last breath. He left with a peaceful expression without pain or groaning."

Maru was a pet dog with a long history with former President Moon.

He had been with him since around February 2008, when Moon finished the participatory government and started living in a house in Maegok-dong, Yangsan City. After his inauguration as president in May 2017, Maru lived in the Blue House. Since his retirement in May this year, he has been living with former President Moon and his wife at their new residence in Pyeongsan Village, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan City.

In 2018, Maru fathered seven puppies with 'Gomi,' the female Pungsan dog gifted to former President Moon by Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. Regarding this, former President Moon said, "While living in the Blue House, Maru shared love with the North Korean Pungsan dog Gomi and created a South-North joint project, so it was a well-lived dog life," adding, "Maru was cremated and buried in a tree burial between the trees in the yard of the residence."
