Golf Digest USA announced the top 25 newsmakers who made headlines in the golf world this year on the 9th (local time). After revealing the rankings from 11th to 25th first, Kim Joo-hyung was placed 12th. The publication commented on Kim Joo-hyung, saying, "Golf fans might compare Kim Joo-hyung's emergence in 2022 to Tiger Woods' 'Hello, World' debut in 1996."
In August, at the PGA Tour Wyndham Championship, Kim Joo-hyung lost 4 strokes on the first hole of the first round but shot a final round 61 to win the tournament. Early this year, he was not a PGA Tour member and was ranked 130th in the world, but after winning the Wyndham Championship and the Shriners Children's Open in October, he is now ranked 15th globally. Kim Joo-hyung is the second player after Woods to win two PGA Tour titles before turning 21. The publication also gave high marks for his outstanding performance in the Presidents Cup, the men's golf competition between the USA and the International team.
The highest-ranked newsmaker at 11th was the change in the Presidents Cup player lineup due to the launch of the LIV Golf Invitational Series, sponsored by Saudi Arabian capital. Top International team players Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman (both Australia), and Joaqu?n Niemann (Chile) moved to the LIV Series and did not participate in the Presidents Cup.
Major PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas (USA) ranked 13th, The Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick (England) 14th, and Lydia Ko (New Zealand), who dominated the LPGA Tour money list, Player of the Year, and scoring average, was ranked 15th. Sahith Theegala, who started outside the top 300 in the world rankings and rose to 44th, was 17th, and Patrick Reed (USA), who sued the PGA Tour after moving to LIV Golf, was ranked 21st.
