After the Cargo Solidarity General Strike Withdrawal... Busan Port Cargo Volume Rapidly Recovers Busan Port [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Byun Seon-jin] Following the withdrawal of the Cargo Solidarity Union's general strike, container cargo volume at Busan Port is rapidly recovering.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 10th, as of 5 p.m. the previous day, the daily container throughput at Busan Port was recorded at 132% compared to normal levels. This exceeds the nationwide container throughput of 124% across 12 ports. Major roads around Busan New Port and North Port have regained their usual activity, with trailers carrying containers busily moving to and from terminals following the dispersal of Cargo Solidarity Union members the day before.

Some companies producing large-scale steel plates faced production suspension risks due to inability to ship products and lack of storage space, but have returned to normal operations. Concrete pouring work at major construction sites is also resuming one after another.

However, the significant decline in export-import cargo passing through Busan Port as well as transshipment volumes continues due to the global consumption sentiment contraction caused by inflation.
