[Asia Economy Reporter Byun Seon-jin] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 10th at midnight that 62,738 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total to 27,674,163.

Today's new cases increased by 9,877 compared to 52,861 cases reported a week ago on the 3rd. The number of new cases has been rising for six consecutive days since the 5th. Compared to two weeks ago on the 26th of last month (52,777 cases), there was an increase of 9,961 cases. The resurgence of new cases poses a challenge for the government, which plans to adjust the indoor mask-wearing mandate within this month.

The government is considering adjusting the indoor mask-wearing mandate as early as January next year, or by March at the latest. The specific timing will be determined by considering the number of new cases along with trends in severe cases and deaths, as well as the capacity for epidemic response.

The number of severe patients currently hospitalized is 428, a decrease of 13 from the previous day. The number of severe cases has remained above 400 since the 19th of last month.

There were 54 additional COVID-19 related deaths. The cumulative death toll stands at 31,029, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
