[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) conducted the ‘Love Piggy Bank Sharing’ event in collaboration with the National and Private Daycare Center Associations.

Daycare center children developed the habit of saving and spending wisely by collecting coins in piggy banks for one year for the ‘Love Piggy Bank Sharing.’ They also naturally learned the joy of sharing by delivering the piggy banks to neighbors in need.

First, on the 7th, the ‘Love Bread Piggy Bank Coin Collection’ event was held at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium, hosted by the Gwangjin-gu National Daycare Center Association (President Lee Soon-hee) and World Vision.

About 150 participants, including children and childcare teachers from 57 national daycare centers in Gwangjin-gu, including the Gwangjin-gu Office workplace daycare center, took part and delivered the piggy banks they had collected throughout the year.

The 18 million won raised this year is scheduled to be donated to World Vision and the Community Chest of Korea. World Vision will use this donation to support a project providing clean drinking water in Bangladesh.

Then, on the 9th, the ‘Love Piggy Bank Sharing’ event hosted by the Gwangjin-gu Private Daycare Center Association (President Choi Eun) took place.

About 50 childcare staff from 52 private daycare centers in Gwangjin-gu attended the event and delivered piggy banks collected by children and childcare teachers over the year. The total amount of 8 million won will be donated to the Community Chest of Korea and used for infant and toddler support projects in Gwangjin-gu.

On this day, an award ceremony was also held to commend outstanding childcare staff from private daycare centers. The district honored and encouraged 20 daycare center directors and childcare teachers who work hard for the healthy growth of infants and toddlers in challenging childcare environments, boosting their morale.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We strive to create a high-quality childcare environment and thank the daycare centers that always participate in meaningful events. I hope this event becomes a good memory in the children’s hearts and that they grow up to be warm-hearted adults.”
