[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Busan Port Authority (BPA) held the ‘2022 Busan Port Authority Excellent Performance Competition’ at the BPA headquarters on the 8th and selected eight innovative cases as the final winners.
This event was organized to evaluate and reward BPA’s representative excellent achievements throughout the year.
The evaluation process consisted of the first round of document screening, the second round of online public voting with about 1,600 participants, and the third round of final presentation judging in the Excellent Performance Competition.
In the three-stage evaluation, eight cases were finally selected from 68 excellent cases submitted by all departments of the Busan Port Authority.
The grand prize was awarded to the Construction Planning Office’s project titled ‘Promotion of Resource Circulation-Type Port Construction.’
The project received high evaluations from internal and external experts and public sympathy for its efforts in reducing construction waste, promoting the use of recycled aggregates through internal and external collaboration and system establishment, and quality management, earning the grand prize.
During the Cargo Solidarity Union strike in June, the project titled ‘Busan Port, the Artery of Korean Logistics, Overcoming Port Paralysis by Breaking Down Walls Between Piers,’ which minimized operational damage by actively transporting cargo using internal passageways within the Busan port piers, took second place.
BPA also responded to the Cargo Solidarity Union’s general strike, which lasted 16 days from November 24 to December 9, by utilizing the know-how and achievements from the previous strike.
The third place was awarded to the project ‘Establishing a Virtuous Cycle of Eco-Friendly Carbon Neutrality,’ which supports reinvesting greenhouse gas emission trading profits earned by private operators within the port into eco-friendly port projects.
Other projects that received encouragement awards included ▲ regulatory reforms to support value-added activities of companies in the hinterland complex ▲ efforts to reduce port fine dust emissions from ships and others ▲ operational efficiency improvements through a blockchain-based transshipment transportation system ▲ smart farm operations utilizing idle port land ▲ and the establishment of safety systems for small-scale workers.
BPA plans to actively communicate and collaborate with other public institutions and ports in the future to support the external dissemination and feedback of these achievements, and will release the competition presentation materials on the Busan Port Authority website and SNS at a later date.
BPA President Kang Jun-seok said, “We will widely share our excellent achievements created based on government innovation policies,” and added, “We will continue to strive to become an organization where excellent performers are valued to continuously create innovative results.”
