Wando-gun Wins Excellence Award for Jeonnam Euddeummaule Creation Project

Wando-eup Yongam, Sinji-myeon Wolbu, Geumdang-myeon Ulpo Selected as Excellent Eutteum Villages

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, received the Excellence Award in the ‘2022 Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making’ project evaluation, securing a prize fund of 30 million KRW.

The ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making Project’ is an initiative promoted by Jeollanam-do targeting 2,000 villages across 22 cities and counties in the province to create a clean and beautiful Jeonnam.

After project implementation, 50 outstanding best villages were selected by evaluating items such as resident participation, number of excellent villages selected, performance of the promotion team, and publicity achievements.

In Wando-gun, three villages?Yongam Village in Wando-eup, Wolbu Village in Sinji, and Ulpo Village in Geumdang?were selected as excellent best villages, and the county received the Excellence Award as an outstanding institution.

Yongam Village was recognized for operating a village Korean language school and holding an exhibition of works, creating a vibrant village. Wolbu Village in Sinji earned praise for residents joining forces to create a landscape around the village’s protected trees, and Geumdang’s Ulpo Village received high marks for installing night lighting and rest facilities in the previously quiet harbor, transforming it into a resting space for residents.

Jung In-ho, Head of the Administrative Support Division, said, “Thanks to the residents’ strong will to improve the village environment and landscape, we were able to achieve excellent results in the Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making project evaluation. We will do our best to achieve even better results in the Best Village Making project next year.”

The county plans to focus on creating landscapes and discovering and preserving disappearing village heritage while promoting the project. It will also put more effort into strengthening resident autonomy by utilizing resident autonomy committees and village communities.

Meanwhile, Wando-gun promoted the Best Village Making project in 46 villages in 2021 and 45 villages in 2022. Next year, it plans to select an additional 45 villages to cultivate villages through landscape and environmental maintenance.
