[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] BGF Retail announced on the 9th that it has urgently provided about 6,000 bottles of 2L bottled water to Wando-gun, Jeonnam, which is experiencing a drinking water shortage.

Currently, some island areas in Jeonnam are suffering from the worst drought since weather observations began in 1973. With drinking water sources depleted and restricted water supply implemented, there is a shortage of not only water for daily use but also drinking water. Since this disaster has been ongoing for a long time, BGF Retail is considering additional support measures and plans to launch emergency relief as soon as requests come in.

In 2015, BGF Retail became the first in the industry to sign a business agreement on disaster prevention and relief with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Disaster Relief Association, supporting national disaster prevention and emergency relief activities by utilizing more than 30 logistics centers nationwide and the CU network.

A BGF Retail official said, “The drought situation is worsening across the southern region, including Wando-gun, so we are maintaining a constant public-private cooperative response posture and closely monitoring the situation. We will continue to spare no effort to protect public safety and help overcome crisis situations wisely.”
