Changwon Special City, Carbon Neutrality Best Practice Contest ... Awarded Minister of Environment Institutional Commendation Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam received the Minister of Environment's Institutional Commendation in the Carbon Neutrality Best Practices Contest.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam received the Minister of Environment’s Institutional Commendation in the 2022 Carbon Neutrality Best Practices Contest for metropolitan and basic local governments, hosted by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation.

This evaluation assessed the distinctiveness of projects reflecting regional characteristics, the interest of local leaders, achievement of project outcomes, and applicability to other local governments. The award ceremony was held alongside a case-sharing conference.

In particular, the city was highly praised for policies promoted in three sectors: ▲Strong policies (2030 Environmental Vision, 2050 Carbon Neutrality Plan, establishment of climate crisis adaptation measures) ▲Immediate action (constant promotion of the Climate Crisis Clock, operation of the nation’s only Climate Action Day, Green Expo environmental culture festival, creating green apartments with residents) ▲Effective projects (citizen-benefit sharing solar power generation, 100-person relay donations by SMEs for ESG management, creation of heatwave-safe villages, etc.).

Jo Myung-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor, said, “We are very pleased that Changwon City’s efforts to respond to the climate crisis have been recognized as achievements. Next year, we will strengthen climate and environmental policies further by establishing the Climate Environment Bureau, Environmental Education Team, and Carbon Neutral Policy Team, and grow into a model local government for carbon neutrality.”
